The Martini Gallery exists because I could not locate any information on the internet about Martini action firearms. In January of 1996 I gave up on Fidonet and decided to explore the internet. One off the first things for which I searched was information about Martini Cadets, custom rifles built on Martini actions, and historical useage of Martini rifles. I didn't find much. Oh, there was a obscure reference here and there as well as an occasional Martini firearm for sale but little information. When I settled on Flashnet as an internet provider part of the service provided was 1M of space for a home page. This seemed an ideal time to put a page dedicated to Martini firearms. After gathering some images and learning enough HTML to get buy the first version of the Martini Gallery was uploaded in July, 1996. My intent is to continuously improve the page as material becomes available and in early 1997, I purchased an additional 5M of space for images. Flashnet was eventually bought out and I switched to another provided and purchased commercial web space for my hobby page.
The purpose of the Martini Gallery is to provide information about Martini firearms for Martini enthusiasts. It is not intended to be a reflection of my individual firarms; indeed, the majority of the images and some of the descriptions have been contributed by other Martini owners. Originally this web site was not intended to a listing of fireams for sale. However, as time went on maintenance of the web page and answering questions began to take more time than I could allocate. Between relocating from Dallas to a rural area, taking on a management job with my company, and becoming more active in my father's antique firearms business I decided to obtain an FFL and start a small firearms business focusing on singe shot rifles primary Martini's. I continue to try to answer questions about Martini's or point people at resources or refer them to individuals who know a great deal more about Martini's than I. Hopefully the business interest will keep me motivated to keep the page better updated than I have in the last few years. The Martini Gallery is not the ultimate Martini web page. However, to the best of my knowledge it is the first web page dedicated solely to Martini's. Several people have put up pages with more detailed specific Martini information. The Martini Gallery is generally composed of the sections listed below:
me My name is Randy C. Davis (I"d be the one with the smile as opposed to the tongue hanging out) and I am a husband, father, and Christian living in central Texas in the United States. By profession I am a metallurgist and registered professional engineer working in the aerospace industry. I grew up in western Oklahoma and was given my first Martini, a 22 Hornet, at the age of 14 by my father. My father and grandfather were ranchers and operated a pawn shop and gun store in Elk City, OK, for many years. In retirement my father operates an antique gun and western item business, Chick's Cowboys and Indians. My primary firearm interest is custom rifles built on small frame Martini actions although I hunt, shoot pistols, and generally plink every chance I get.
